Connecting VAS 5051




VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST) & VAS 5051 Tester, Connecting And Selecting Functions

All functions previously performed with the VAG 1551 or VAG 1552 can also be performed using the new VAS 5051 tester via operating mode vehicle self-diagnosis.

VAS 5051, connecting







- Fold open cover for Data Link Connector (DLC) in lower trim of steering column.
- Connect VAS 5051/1 or VAS 5051/3 diagnostic wire to Data Link Connector (DLC).
- Switch on ignition.

Operating mode, selecting
- Press "Vehicle Self-Diagnosis" selection on display.

Vehicle system, selecting
- Select the vehicle system to be tested on display (touch screen).
Display will indicate the control module identification and the coding.

Function, selecting
Display shows all relevant diagnostic functions.
- Select the desired function on display.


NOTE:
- The display fields in functions 04 - basic setting and 08 - read measuring value block are listed from top to bottom.
- The following test sequences are described for the VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST).


VAG 1551, connecting
Test requirements:
- All fuses OK according to wiring diagram.
- Battery voltage must be at least 11.5 volts.

Procedure
- Connect VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST) using VAG 1551/3B cable.


NOTE:
- If nothing is indicated on display, check voltage supply for VAG 1551 scan tool according to wiring diagram.
- Depending on the program, additional operating information can be printed out by pressing the HELP button of the VAG 1551 scan tool.
- The -> button is used for advancing through the program sequence.
- The PRINT button is used for switching on the printer (lamp in button lights up).


Indicated on display:


VAG On Board Diagnostic (OBD) HELP
1 - Rapid data transfer*
2 - Blink code output*


* Two operating modes are displayed alternately

- Operate scan tool according to indications on display:
- Press button 1 to select "Rapid data transfer" operating mode 1.
- Continue On Board Diagnostic (OBD) of the vehicle system to be tested as described under "performing On Board Diagnostic (OBD)" See Table of Contents
