Engine Control Module: Description and Operation

OBD II System, Control Module Features

Control Module Features:
- Data transfer between Control Module and VAG 1551/VAG 1552 Scan Tools is processed in the "Rapid data transfer" mode
- DTC memory is equipped with a non-volatile memory

Control Module Identification:
- VAG 1551 Scan Tool, connecting and ECM selecting

Control Module Functions:
- The ECM is equipped with a variety of Functions.
- Some Functions require the ignition ONLY to be switched ON, other functions require the engine to be running

Function 01:
- Check Control Module Versions (Switch ignition on or let engine idle.)

Function 02:
- Check DTC Memory (Let engine idle, or, crank engine with starter for at least 5 sec., then do not switch ignition off.)

Function 03:
- Output Diagnostic Test Mode (Switch ignition on, do not let engine idle.)

Function 04:
- Basic Setting (Let engine idle.)
- Must be performed if the ECM, engine or Throttle Valve Control Module has been replaced
- Only possible when engine coolant temperature exceeds 80°C Function is blocked when temperatures are lower than 80°C
- Must be performed during idle speed check

Function 05:
- Erase DTC Memory (Let engine idle, or, crank engine with starter for at least 5 sec., then do not switch ignition off.)

Function 06:
- End Output (Switch ignition on.)

Function 07:
- Code Control Module (Switch ignition on,do not let engine idle.)

Function 08:
- Read Measuring Value Block (Switch ignition on or let engine idle, or driving.)
