Test conditions
- Coolant temperature 80 °C minimum
Test sequence
- Connect VAG 1551 (VAG 1552) Scan Tool. Selectable Functions When Using VAG1551/1552 or VAS5051
- With engine idling, press buttons -0- and -1- to select "Engine electronics" address word 01.

- Press buttons -0- and -8- to select "Read measuring value block".
- Press -Q- button to enter selection.

- Press buttons -0-, -3- and -7- to select "Display group number 37".
- Press -Q- button to enter selection.
Display will appear as shown (1 to 4 = Display fields)

- Check idle speed control specs (Display fields 1 to 4).

- Press -C- button.

Continuation
- Switch ignition off.
- Connect VAG 1598/18 Test Box to ECM wiring harness.
- Switch ignition on.
- Switch Fluke 83 multimeter to resistance range.
- With throttle valve closed, connect multimeter between Test Box sockets 27 + 53 using jumper wires from VW 1594 adapter kit.
- specification: 3 to 200 Ohms
If specification not obtained
- Disconnect 8-pin Throttle Valve Control Module connector
- Check wiring for open circuit between Test Box and 8-pin connector using wiring diagram.

- wire resistance: 1.5 Ohms maximum
- Check wiring at 8-pin harness connector for shorting to one another using wiring diagram.

- specification: infinity Ohms
If wiring OK:
- Replace Throttle Valve Control Module.
- Perform Basic setting.
- Read-out Readiness code. Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes
If DTC memory has been erased:
- Create Readiness code. Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes
