Special tools and testers
- VAG 1551 with adapter cable VAG 1551/3

Test conditions
- No DTCs stored in DTC memory
- Electrical consumers switched off (radiator fan must not run during the test)
- A/C switched off
- Intake air temperature less than 90 °C See display group 04, display field 4
- Coolant temperature less than 95 °C See display group 04, display field 3
- Throttle valve angle less than 10 <° See display group 03, display field 3

Test sequence

Work step: 1
- Switch ignition on.
- Connect VAG 1551 Scan Tool (or VAG 1552) and select engine electronics control module with Address word 01. (Connecting scan tool and selecting engine electronics control module).

The VAG 1551 display will show the control module identification, e.g.:

- Check coding.

If the coding differs from the vehicle version, then:
- Code control module Engine Control Module (ECM), Coding
- Press -> button.

NOTE: After confirming the display group number 98 the throttle valve positioner will be moved to the min., max. and then into the start position. The control module stores the appropriate throttle valve angle in the permanent memory. The throttle valve will then remain in the start position.

- Terminate engine basic setting at earliest after 30 seconds by pressing -> button.

- Driving range 2 or 2nd gear must be selected.
- Engine revolutions must be kept - between 2500-4000 rpm.
- Continue test drive until the specifications are attained.

- Check specifications during test drive (2nd person necessary).

During the road test:
- Driving range 2 or 3rd gear must be selected
- The engine speed must be above 3500 rpm for 5 seconds, then
- Release accelerator pedal for 3 seconds (after the 3 seconds the driving speed must still be at least 20 km/h (approx. 10 and engine must have been in overun for a minimum of 2 seconds).
