Intake Air System, Leak Checking (For Outside Air)

Checking with leak detector spray G 001 800 A1

Special tools and equipment
- VAG 1551/1552 Scan Tool using VAG 1551/3 adapter cable
- G 001 800 A1 Engine leak detector spray


NOTE:
- If there is a leak, manifold vacuum will draw the detector spray along with outside air into the source of the leak.
- Leak detector spray reduces mixture ignitability, leading to a drop in engine speed and a significant rise in CO content
- Always observe safety precautions listed on the container.


Test sequence
- Connect VAG 1551 (VAG 1552) Scan Tool. Refer to Scan Tool Testing/Selectable Functions Using VAG 1551. Testing and Inspection
- With engine idling, press buttons -0- and -1- to select "Engine electronics" address word 01.

Display will appear as shown

Select function XX



- Press buttons -0- and -8- to select "Read measuring value block".
- Press -Q- button to enter selection.
- Systematically spray parts of intake system with leak detector spray. If engine speed drops or Oxygen control value changes:
- Press buttons -0- and -6- to select "End output" and confirm entry with -Q- button.
- Check suspected leak-sprayed area of intake system for leaks and eliminate as necessary.
