Replacement power-steering gears are supplied without tie rods... Tie rods must thus be transferred from old steering gear
To avoid possible damage to pinion gear during removal and installation of tie rods, the rack must be properly held in a vise
- grip tooth section of rack in vise, using copper jaw covers to prevent scoring of rack
- apply Loctite 270 or 271 (or equivalent) to tie rods when installing in rack
- torque tie rods to 60-75 N-m (43-54 ft.lbs.)
- wipe excess Loctite from tie rod before installing dust boot to prevent damage to rack seals
