During engine load changes, you may hear a squeaking noise from the swivel exhaust down pipe gasket area.
There are two different causes for this noise:
1. Glazed down pipe gasket due to load and temperature changes.
2. Exhaust down pipe contacting the exhaust manifold. This can be caused by excessive weld material in the flange area (see arrows), or improper flange seating.
Analysis and Repair Procedures
- release swivel clamps and remove down pipe.
- inspect down pipe flange area for burrs caused by exhaust manifold contact.
^ replace down pipes which show signs of contact with exhaust manifold.
Note
Always use a new down pipe gasket, P/N 171 253 115, when replacing exhaust down pipe.
- if down pipe flange surfaces are OK, only replace the down pipe gasket.
