Drive Belt Assembly
CAUTION: Never crank engine as long as camshaft belt is off or not tightened, since valves could contact the piston and become damaged.
1 - 45 Nm (33 ft lb)
2 - Tensioner
- adjusting drive belt tension, Service and Repair
- to tighten, turn toward right
3 - 10 Nm(87 in lb)
4 - Upper drive cover
5 - Rear drive belt cover
6 - Injection pump gear
7 - 25 Nm(18 ft lb)
8 - Bracket
9 - Fastener
10 - Fuel injection pump
11 - 20 Nm (14 ft lb)
- mount and loosen both upper bolts with wrench 3112
12 - Alternator mounting bracket
13 - Water pump
14 - Drive belt gear
15 - Drive belt
- installing and removing, Service and Repair
16 - rankshaft drive sprocket bolt
- 12-sided bolt. Always replace. 90 Nm (66 ft lb) PLUS 1/2 turn (180°). 1/2 turn (180°) can be done in stages. However full 1/2 turn (180°) MUST be done. 12 sided bolt can be installed in all previously manufactured diesel engines which have an M14 x 1.5 mm securing bolt.

18 - V-Belt
- check tension with finger pressure deflection:
- new v-belt: approx. 2 mm
- old v-belt: approx. 5 mm
19 - Pulley
20 - 20 Nm (14 ft lb)
Note: Defective injectors can result in engine knocking and can damage bearings. Let engine run at idle and loosen injection line tube nuts in sequence. If knocking noise stops after loosening tube nuts, this indicates that the injector is defective.
