For 1983-84, the Scirocco and Quantum are available with electric power mirrors. If a mirror lens is missing or broken, the mirror assembly need not be replaced.. Mirror lenses are available for replacement, Part No. 321 857 521 /522 A, and can be installed as follows:
Removal and installation can be performed by use of a slot located on the underside of the mirror housing.
- press inward at bottom of mirror lens
- place screwdriver through slot and into notch in plastic lock ring behind glass lens
- hold mirror and turn lock ring counterclockwise with screwdriver
- unplug electrical leads and remove mirror lens from housing
- to install, place small amount of silicone sealer on four mounting points of lens carrier (arrows)
- attach electrical leads and move lock ring clockwise to secure lens
If the electrical adjustment function of the mirror does not operate, perform the following check:
- remove mirror lens
- remove four Phillips screws holding motor-clutch assembly
- check that all four electrical wires are in and secure at rear of motor drive assembly
- reassemble mirror
Binding or sticking mirrors can be made to operate smoothly by cleaning the motor drive unit:
- remove mirror lens
- remove motor-clutch assembly
- clean inside and outside of motor drive unit with WD-40(R) or equivalent
CAUTION
Do not use silicone spray.
- wipe assembly clean and dry
- install motor-clutch assembly
- operate mirror without glass lens
- install lens and check function
