Removal

Exploded View of Engine:

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Drain cooling system.
3. Disconnect exhaust pipe.
4. Remove injectors from injector blocks. (It is not necessary to remove hoses from injectors.)
5. Disconnect heater hose from rear of cylinder head. Disconnect upper radiator hose from cylinder head.
6. Remove valve cover, front timing cover, and timing belt.
7. Remove rear drive belt cover.

8. Loosen and remove cylinder head bolts in reverse order shown in Fig. 3.

NOTE: To prevent warpage, loosen bolts 90° at a time until bolts turn freely.

9. Disconnect temperature sender wire from rear of cylinder head.
10. Remove cylinder head.
