For every power stroke, the fuel-injection system, Fig. 5, supplies the required quantity of fuel to the injection nozzle at high pressure and at a precisely determined crankshaft position. In turn, the nozzle sprays the fuel, finely atomized, into the combustion chamber.
The low-pressure section of a Diesel fuel-injection system includes fuel tank, fuel filter, vane-type supply pump and overflow valve, as well as the various fuel lines.
The pressure necessary for injection is generated in the high-pressure section of the injection pump. Fuel is pumped through the pressure valve, high-pressure lines and nozzle holder to the injection nozzle.
