Subject:

Cooling System Pressure Tester

Key Points:

Pressure gauge supplied may have insufficient range

Due to many factors, greater demands have been placed on the cooling systems of Volkswagen, Porsche and Audi products. Some cooling systems are working with pressures up to 23 PSI (1.6 Bar).. Also greater demands are expected from your cooling system test equipment.

If you are using the recommended cooling system pressure tester, (Stant model ST 255 A or Snap-On model SVT 262) you are requested to check the following:

If your tester is equipped with a pressure gauge calibrated with colored bands (Illustration A) or with a pressure graph (Illustration B) these gauges must be replaced as they do not meet pressure requirements.
These gauges should be replaced with a pressure gauge having a full scale reading of 30 PSI (2.0 Bar).

Acquire locally a standard replacement pressure gauge with the following minimum specifications:

Gauge Size: 2" Dial
Pressure Range: 0 to 30 PSI (0 to 2.0 Bar)
Scale 0 to 30 PSI in 1 PSI increments
(0 to 2.0 Bar)
Fitting: 1/8" NPT Bottom Port
Accuracy: +/- 2% of reading at mid-scale

The pressure gauges listed below or their equivalent are suggested.
