As of December 1983 production, all short blocks and engines remanufactured by VW Canada will be equipped with two self-adhesive labels. These labels will contain the following information:
^ Label No.. 1 Engine serial number
^ Label No. 2 Engine part number and code letters for applications
Labels will be located close to the original engine number. They are yellow/gold in color and made of heat, oil and gasoline resistant material.
Numbering sequence
^ Aircooled engines start at No. 68001
^ Watercooled engines start at No. 50001
