Installation




Cylinder Head. Installing

NOTE:
- Prior to mounting the cylinder head, position the crankshaft to the TDC marking
- Turn crankshaft opposite engine rotation direction until all the pistons are at nearly equal height.
- After mounting cylinder head, turn camshaft gear so that the cam lobes for cylinder 1 point upwards. Before mounting drive belt, turn crankshaft in engine rotation direction to TDC
- Always repiace all cylinder head bolts.


- to locate head, insert guide pins from 3070 in out holes on intake manifold side
- mount cylinder head, insert remaining 8 bolts and tighten by hand
- remove guide pins with tool from 3070 and tighten all bolts in correct tightening sequence




- torque cylinder head bolts in sequence in following steps: (engine cold)
Step I 40 Nm (30 ft lb)
Step II 60 Nm (43 ft lb)
Step III 1/2 turn (180° two 90° turns are permissible)

- run engine until it reaches normal operating temperature (engine oil over 50°C) and retighten head bolts in sequence 1/4 turn (90°) further with breaker bar without loosening them

Engine code ME, MF only
- after about 1000 miles (with engine either warm or cold) retighten cylinder head bolts with breaker bar turning bolts in sequence 1/4 turn (90°) without loosening them and without interruption
