Removal and Installion



Cylinder Head Assembly





NOTE:
- The cylinder head can be removed/installed with engine in vehicle. See removing/installing drive (timing) belt. Service and Repair It is not necessary to remove the drive belt and lower drive belt guard.

- If repairs are required, remove injectors and glowplugs first. When installing a new cylinder head with mounted camshaft, it is not necessary to adjustvalve play. Contact surfaces between valve adjusting plates and cams must be oiled before installing cylinder head. The supplied plastic washers for protecting the open valves may be removed just before mounting the cylinder head.

CAUTION: Coolant/antifreeze must not be reused when replacing engine, cylinder head, cylinder head gasket, radiator and heater core.

NOTE: Refacing of diesel engine cylinder heads is not necessary.

Depending on piston height, cylinder head gaskets of different thicknesses can be installed. When replacing a gasket, always use a gasket having the same identification.

NOTE: When installing new pistons or short block, measure piston height and select head gasket of correct thickness. refer to Clearance to Cylinder Head Specifications
