Only use the procedures on the following pages when performing these checks.

These pages have been formatted for the 1.8 liter Fuel Injection and ignition Repair Manual. They will be integrated into that manual at the time of the next printing.

Ignition coil (N 152), checking

- Disconnect power output stage harness connector from power output stage

- Disconnect coil wire from ignition coil (N 152)

- Switch Fluke 83 multimeter to resistance range

Ignition Coil:

- Connect multimeter between terminals 1 and 15 of ignition coil and measure primary resistance

^ must be 0.5 to 0.7 Ohms

- Connect multimeter between terminals 4 and 15 and measure secondary resistance

^ must be 3000 to 4000 Ohms

If NO

- Replace ignition coil (N 152) complete with power output stage (N 157) as shown in illustration 28-888 on page 28-2

- Repeat the primary and secondary resistance checks

Ignition coil power output stage (N 157), checking

Requirements

^ electrical test step 19 OK, page 01-29

^ ignition coil OK

Power supply, checking

- Disconnect ignition coil power output stage harness connector

- Switch Fluke 83 multi meter to 20 Volt range
