Computers and Control Systems: Service Precautions
1. Always ensure the battery is properly connected to the vehicle prior to attempting to start the vehicle.
2. NEVER attempt to start the engine using an external power source, such as a rapid charger or batteries connected in series, with the battery connected to the vehicle.
3. If the battery is to be charged using a rapid charger, disconnect both battery cables.
4. Don't disconnect the battery when the engine is running.
5. Ensure all electrical connections have clean and proper connections.
6. Never connect or disconnect electrical connections with the ignition switch in the on position.
7. Always depressurize the fuel system before disconnecting any lines.
8. Ensure that a supply of cloth is available to absorb any spills.
9. Do not use a self powered test lamp to check for continuity.
10. Do not create any arcing to check the continuity of a circuit.
11. Do not run out of fuel.
12. Use caution around fuel spills as a fire and/or explosion factor is present.
13. Wipe up all diesel spills immediately to prevent the deterioration of any rubber parts.
14. Never disconnect any fuel lines around an ignition source.
15. Don't use cloth towels around fuel system components as the lint may cause blockages in the fuel system.
16. Always work on the injection system components in a clean area. Dirt entering the system may cause extensive damage.
