Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Installation

INSTALLATION:

1. Engine installation is the reverse of removal. Lightly lubricate the transaxle main shaft splines and the contact area between the clutch release bearing and the pressure plate with molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) grease. Do not lubricate the clutch release bearing guide sleeve.

Tightening Torque:
Engine-to-Transaxle Bolts: 55 Nm (41 ft lb).
Starter Mounting Bolts: 25 Nm (18 ft lb).
Bellhousing Cover Plate Bolts: 10 Nm (87 in lb).
A/C Compressor Bolts: 20 Nm (15 ft lb).
Exhaust Pipe To Support: 25 Nm (18 ft lb).
Exhaust Pipe To Manifold: 30 Nm (22ft lb).

CAUTION: Do not reuse coolant if the engine, cylinder head, head gasket or heater core has been damaged and repaired. Doing so may damage the cooling system or the engine.

2. Install the A/C compressor pulley and belt.
3. Adjust the clutch.

ALIGNING:

1. With the engine in position on its mounts, install the fasteners. Before final tightening, shake the engine by hand to roughly align it. When installation is complete, torque the fasteners while running the engine at idle speed. Tightening torque for engine mounts is 40 Nm (30 ft lb). Front mount carrier to body: 65 Nm (47ft lb). Front mount to block: 30 Nm (22ft lb).

WARNING:
- Engine alignment must be done only with the car firmly on the ground, Do not do this while the car is raised on a jack or jack stands.
- Keep clear of radiator cooling fan. The fan may run at any time, even with the ignition off. Keep hands, clothing and other objects clear of rotating engine parts.
- Never run the engine in the work area unless it is well ventilated. The exhaust should be ducted to the outside. Carbon monoxide (CO) in the exhaust is deadly
