Starting system troubleshooting

The battery and its cables should be in good condition when troubleshooting the starter. If in doubt about the battery, check it. If the outside temerature is at or below 32° F (0° C), check viscosity of the engine oil. The use of an oil of improper viscosity for cold conditions will increase engine friction and can lead to starting difficulties.
