PM Repair Procedure Crankshaft Pulley Replacement

A. Vehicles with Air Conditioning

Important: A battery drain tube is located on the right side in the engine compartment. Be careful when working near or close to that area. Battery electrolyte contains sulfuric acid.

Removal

- With vehicle on ground, remove radiator grille to gain access to alternator pivot bolt.

- Loosen alternator belt.

- Lift vehicle.

- Loosen air conditioner belt; remove belt.

- Remove four (4) nuts holding air conditioning pulley.

Note: Air conditioning pulley consists of several parts which must be identically reinstalled as removed. Therefore, remove pulley as one unit and carefully lay aside.

- Remove crankshaft pulley.

- Check crankshaft pulley. If it shows signs of cracks, alternator belt must be replaced also.

Installation

- Install new crankshaft pulley, part number 026 105 255.

- Install alternator belt where necessary, use part number 049 903 137B.

- Re-install air conditioner pulley, check proper alignment.

- Re-install four (4) nuts and tighten to 20 N-m (14 ft. lbs.).

- Re-install A/C belt and tension properly.

- Lower vehicle.



- Adjust alternator belt tension:
a = 10 to 15 mm (see illustration).
- Re-install radiator grille.

- Start engine, check alignment.

B. Vehicles without Air Conditioning

Important: A battery drain tube is located on the right side in the engine compartment. Be careful when working near or close to that area. Battery electrolyte contains sulfuric acid.

Removal

- With vehicle on ground, remove radiator grille to gain access to alternator pivot bolt.

- Loosen alternator belt.

- Lift vehicle.

- Remove four (4) nuts holding crankshaft pulley.

- Remove pulley.

- Check removed pulley. If it shows sign of cracks, alternator belt must be replaced also.

Installation

- Install new crankshaft pulley, part number 026 105 255.

- Install alternator belt where necessary, use part number 049 903 137B.
- Re-install four (4) nuts and tighten to 20 N-m (14 ft. lbs.).

- Lower vehicle.



- Adjust alternator belt tension:
a = 10 to 15 mm (see illustration).
- Re-install radiator grille.

- Start engine, check alignment.
