Speedometer - Noise/Erratic Operation

Speedometer noise and needle oscillations can be eliminated through the use of a different cable and routing.

Replace the existing cables and OxS mileage counter (USA models), or just the cable (CANADA models), with grommet P/N: 171 957 857 and speedometer cable P/N: 321 957 803 AF

^ remove speedometer cables and OxS mileage counter (USA models) and discard

^ remove grommet from engine close-out panel behind steering damper and save

^ route new speedometer cable with grommet between coolant pipe and coolant pipe bracket, between steering gear and steering damper and into hole in panel (arrow)

Note

The cable should take a light curve just above the coolant expansion tank hose.

^ attach cable to holder mounted on coolant tank hose (arrow)

^ position second grommet A on cable above heater pipe so cable does not touch pipe

^ route cable under instrument panel between fuse/relay panel bracket and steering column bracket and above left air outlet duct

^ connect cable to speedometer head

^ install grommet removed from engine close-out panel into hole left open by removal of old speedometer cable

^ install new grommet, P/N: 171 957 857, into open hole at engine compartment/water tray area
