Applies to vehicles that were fueled with gasoline sold by Clark gas stations prior to November 11, 1994 in

^ St. Louis Missouri Metropolitan area and Eastern Missouri

^ All of Southern and mid-state Illinois

^ All of mid-state Indiana

CONDITION

We have been informed by Clark Refining & Marketing, Inc., a gasoline company in St. Louis, Missouri, that gasoline was sold during the first part of November 1994 which did not meet standard corrosion tests. Clark has assured us that this problem has been corrected in the meantime and that fuels sold now again meet all specifications. (see attached letter from Clark dated Nov. 16, 1994.)

Vehicles with in-tank fuel pumps that were fueled with the corrosive gasoline, could in some instances experience fuel delivery problems caused by corroded fuel pump connectors or contaminated fuel filters. The corrosion may also affect fuel injectors. The symptom is similar to running out of gas.

The problem is not expected to go beyond the fuel delivery system. The engine oil and exhaust systems will absorb this gasoline without expecting any harm.

SERVICE

If you encounter fuel delivery problems as described above, ask customer if they bought gasoline from a Clark gas station in the above described areas.

If gasoline was bought from a Clark gas station and Clark has determined that their fuel has caused a problem, Clark promised to reimburse customers.

To initiate reimbursement, call

Clark's Dealership Hotline at 800-848-6245.

Clark requires your dealership name, address and phone number. In return they will fax a Clark Release of Claim Form. To use the direct bill system, customers are asked to sign the Release Form. If the customer refuses to sign the Release Form, the customer can pay for the services and will be reimbursed by Clark directly, providing that Clark has determined that the problem is their responsibility.

For direct billing, Clark requires that a copy of the bill along with the original signed and completed Release Form (both are needed) be mailed to:

The bill should show this information:

^ Customer's name, full address and phone number

^ Date repairs were made

^ Make and model of vehicle

^ A detailed description of the parts and cost, for example: one fuel pump, $84.00

^ A detailed description of labor and cost, for example: replacement of fuel pump, $50.00

^ Your name, address and phone number to mail payment.

- Test drive vehicle and check for any stored DTC. If DTC 00524 and/or 00540 still exist, replace Knock sensor(s) G61 and/or G66 (see Repair Manual group 28).

- If after completing the above suggestions the DTC still exists, contact the Technician's Helpline, prior to replacing the ECM.

If your dealership needs assistance in the disposal of the gasoline removed from the customers car:

^ Clark gasoline must be segregated and stored in a separate drum provided by Reidel Environmental.

^ Do not contact Clark directly regarding the disposal of gasoline, please coordinate all drum pickup and delivery through Reidel.
