Heater valve bracket, broken
For complaints of:
^ high effort required to move the temperature lever or
^ heater valve bracket (located on the HVAC housing) is broken
^ modify the system as follows
^ remove hose A from vacuum distributor and plug opening
^ remove rubber hose B from plastic line originating at heater valve and discard
Vehicles with high effort lever movement:
^ remove the valve
^ remove radio and radio bracket (where applicable)
^ remove center vent and ducting
^ locate vacuum hose C, which is attached to the (air recirc servo) vacuum switch mounted below the A/C control head
^ cut vacuum hose C at center of hose and install vacuum tee (Part Number 175 201 829)
^ connect new vacuum hose (Part Number 171 820 669 or equivalent) to the tee on vacuum hose C
^ shorten hose to 470 mm (18.5 in)
^ install a vacuum gauge to the new hose
^ start engine
^ move temperature lever to center or left of center (in the blue band)
^ gauge must indicate vacuum
Note
If modification has been successfully performed the heater valve must close at a point on center or just left of center as shown in illustration.
^ remove the vacuum gauge and attach the new hose to the heater valve
^ reinstall radio bracket (if applicable) and radio
^ re-install ducting and center vent
