SUBJECT: SERVICE ACTION CAMPAIGN PM 1987 MODEL VOLKSWAGEN FOX REPLACEMENT OF CRANKSHAFT PULLEY
Dear Volkswagen Dealer:
This is to inform you of a service action campaign involving some 1987 model Fox vehicles. The affected vehicles are within the following vehicle identification number range:
9BW - A030 - HP000001 - 9BW - A030 - HP026007
It is possible that the crankshaft pulley may separate and will therefore have to be replaced on each vehicle involved.
Customer Notification
Volkswagen United States, Inc. will mail notification letters to all known owners of affected vehicles on or about September 10, 1987.
A copy of the owner notification letter is enclosed for your information.
Note: A small number of vehicles within the above VIN range were corrected by the factory. Owners of these vehicles will be excluded from notification and will not be listed on your vehicle allocation list.
Inventory Vehicles It is imperative that you complete the necessary work on each vehicle in inventory prior to retail sale.
Vehicle Allocation Information
Prior to owner notification Volkswagen United States will furnish you with a computerized list of vehicles and owners located within your dealership's vicinity. This list may be used to schedule your workload accordingly.
Parts Supply
Volkswagen United States will allocate automatically to you through the parts system an initial supply of required replacement parts based upon your vehicle allocation. Additional parts should be ordered by you from your warehouse.
The required replacement parts are:
1 Crankshaft Pulley - 026 105 255 1 Alternator Belt - 049 903 137B (where applicable)
Time Allowance
The time requirements for the corrective work are as follows:
- Replace crankshaft pulley; vehicle without A/C 40 T.U.
- Replace crankshaft pulley including alternator belt; vehicle without A/C 40 T.U.
- Replace crankshaft pulley; vehicle with A/C 90 T.U.
- Replace crankshaft pulley including alternator belt; vehicle with A/C 90 T.U.

Campaign Authorization
In accordance with campaign procedures Volkswagen United States will mail notification letters including authorization forms to all known owners. For vehicles in your inventory, authorization forms will be mailed directly to you so that you may identify affected vehicles, perform the necessary work and maintain proper completion records.
If a customer requests the campaign work without an authorization, check with your Regional/Distributor office and verify if the campaign is applicable and shows an open status. Please prepare the blank campaign form W430023010, if the work needs to be performed.
Dealer Obligation
It is imperative that you schedule an appointment as soon as possible. It is also important that personnel connected with campaigns in your dealership are informed of this action and its specific procedures.
