To identify an engine by the manufacturer's code, follow the four steps designated by the numbered blocks.

Left side of instrument panel, visible through windshield.

NOTE: Air cooled vehicle type is first digit of chassis number.





(2) ENGINE CODE LOCATION:


Prefix to engine number:

Vanagon - Stamped on crankcase below crankcase breather.

All Other Engines - Stamped on side of engine block below number 2 and 3 spark/glow plugs.
