Transfer Pump Testing

1. Before testing transfer pump:
a. Battery must be fully charged
b. Check the fuel pump fuse
c. Fuel filter must be clean, and installed correctly
2. Remove fuel pump relay and install jumper wire with in-line switch (VW 1348/3A or equivalent). Ensure that remote control switch is OFF.
3. Remove fuel pump/tank sender cover from the floor under the rear seat.
4. Disconnect the plug from the pump and check voltage between terminals 1 and 2. With jumper switched on, battery voltage should be available. If not;
a. Check Wiring (power and ground),
b. Look for loose, bent, burned, or corroded terminals (on pump and plug)
5. If voltage is within specification, and pump does not run;
a. Disconnect supply hose, return hose, and vent hose from pump/sender assembly.
b. Loosen retaining ring and remove pump/sender assembly.
c. Check for break in wire from fuel pump to gauge housing with an ohmmeter.
6. If wiring is OK, replace pump.
