Subject: REPAIRS TO SYNCRO TRANSMISSIONS

Number: V-91-12

Date: 15-MAR-1991

(Supersedes Warranty Circular V-90-16, dated 30-Nov-90)

WARRANTY REPAIRS

Effective May 1, 1991, general warranty repairs should be performed on the internal components of Syncro 016 transmissions when the cost of repair does not exceed the cost of a complete new or remanufactured transmission.

General repairs are defined as any repair or replacement of internal components of the transmission that do not involve replacement or adjustment of the ring gear and pinion. If a ring gear and pinion replacement or adjustment is required, the transmission is to be replaced.

Repair procedures, individual replacement parts and suggested repair times are available. One new special service tool will be required to perform general repairs. One existing optional tool has also been upgraded to minimum requirement, reference Tools and Equipment circular No. V-91-03.

If a Dealer elects to repair an entire Syncro 016 transmission, including ring gear and pinion, he must purchase some additional tools that are also noted in the above circular.

CUSTOMER PAY REPAIRS

In the interest of furthering customer satisfaction, and to support economical repair costs for retail service customers after the warranty period has expired, we recommend that whenever it is less expensive, repairs should be performed to Syncro 016 Transmissions, rather than replacing a complete unit.
