Throttle Full Open Switch: Testing and Inspection

Throttle Switch Testing:

1. With the ignition "OFF", disconnect the throttle switch connector and connect special tool VW 1501 if available, between the harness connector and the throttle switch plug. If special tool VW 1501 is not available carefully probe the necessary terminals.

IDLE SWITCH CHECK
2. With a suitable volt/ohm meter measure the resistance between terminal 1 and 2 of the throttle switch plug.
3. Close the throttle fully.
^ The measurement should be less than 0.5 ohms (continuity).
4. Open the throttle (off idle).
^ The measurement should be infinite ohms (no continuity).

FULL THROTTLE SWITCH CHECK
5. Measure the resistance between terminal 2 and 3 of the throttle switch plug.
6. Open the throttle to approx. 3/4 open.
^ The measurement should be infinite ohms (no continuity).
7. Open the throttle fully.
^ The measurement should be less than 0.5 ohms (continuity).
8. If the throttle switch is properly adjusted and the correct measurements are not obtained the throttle switch assembly is defective. Replace the throttle switch assembly.
