Instrument Cluster / Carrier: Service and Repair
NOTE: The instrument cluster can be removed without removing the instrument panel. The instrument cluster must be removed, however, before the instrument panel can be removed.
1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
2. Remove the steering wheel by marking the hub and the shaft so that the wheel can be reinstalled in exactly the same position. Pry off the center cover and disconnect the wiring from the horn pad. Remove the nut and washer that hold the wheel to the steering column. Pull the wheel straight off.
3. Carefully pry off any vacant switch covers from the instrument cluster trim piece.
NOTE; Before removing the switches, record their positions in the instrument cluster trim piece to facilitate installation.

4. Pry the electrical switches from the trim piece by inserting a small screwdriver behind the switch to depress the retaining clips.
5. Remove the four retaining screws from the trim piece and remove the trim piece. Use a Phillips head screwdriver with a magnetic head to hold the screws during removal.
6. Remove the instrument cluster retaining screws.
7. Remove the speedometer cable. Working behind the instrument cluster, release the speedometer cable retaining clip (A) and pull forward (B) on the top of the instrument cluster.
NOTE: It may be helpful to disconnect the speedometer cable in the engine compartment and work the cable through the firewall grommet to gain some slack in the cable.
8. Disconnect all electrical harness connectors from the rear of the instrument cluster and remove the cluster from the car.
NOTE: Installation is the reverse of removal. Replace the self locking nut and spring retainer used to secure the steering wheel. Torque 50Nm (37 ft lb),
