Fuel Distributor: Service and Repair

To replace the Fuel Distributor:

1. Clean and dry all the fuel line fittings on the fuel distributor.

CAUTION: Absolute cleanliness is essential when working with fuel circuit components of CIS-E. Even a minute particle of dirt can cause major trouble if it reaches the fuel distributor or fuel injectors. Before disconnecting any of the fuel line connections, throughly clean the unions. Always use clean tools.

2. Loosen the fuel line fitting bolts on the fuel distributor.

WARNING: Fuel will be expelled. Do not smoke or work near heaters or other fire hazards. Keep a fire extinguisher handy.

3. Remove the fuel lines from the fuel distributor, label the lines to insure proper installation location if needed.
4. Remove the two small mounting screws from the top of the fuel distributor.
5. Pull the fuel distributor from the air flow sensor.
6. Remove the sealing O-ring from the air flow sensor then clean the O-ring groove.
7. Check the Fuel Distributor control plunger stop screw adjustment before installing new fuel distributor, refer to ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES.
8. Install new fuel distributor sealing O-ring into the air flow sensor groove.
9. Install the fuel distributor on the air flow sensor, be sure O-ring stays in air flow sensor groove.
10. Install the fuel distributor mounting screws and torque to:

2.5 ft.lbs. (3.5 Nm)

11. Reinstall the fuel lines to the fuel distributor using new sealing washers on either side of the fuel fittings.

Fuel Line Specifications:

12. Torque the fuel line bolts to specifications shown, see diagram.
13. START the engine and check for any fuel leaks at the fuel distributor, repair any leaks immediately.

NOTE: The Fuel Distributor and air flow sensor have several basic adjustments that must be made before final assembly. These adjustments are only a starting point and some adjustment procedures will be repeated before the proper setting is achieved. Whenever such adjustments are made, the final step is to check and adjust idle speed and mixture. For these adjustments first refer to FUEL DISTRIBUTOR for the fuel distributor's basic adjustments, then refer to IGNITION TIMING, CO CONTENT AND IDLE SPEED both are addressed in the ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES section.
