Test Description
When performing electrical troubleshooting, refer to SCHEMATIC DIAGRAMS/ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC DIAGRAMS and TEST STEP for the appropriate test.These test steps apply to Corrado and Passat models without self-diagnosis feature up to VIN JE 048 300, Jetta models without self-diagnosis feature up to VIN KK 001 000, and vehicles for which the self-diagnosis feature does not determine the problem source.
In all three above cases, perform steps 1 through 37 in sequence. Perform only those procedures marked by •. Those marked with * have already been performed.
For vehicles with the self-diagnosis feature, perform only those test steps recommended in the blink code troubleshooting charts. Perform all procedures marked with either • or an*.
Obtain the following test equipment: test box VAG 1598, adaptor VAG 15 98/3, test kit connector VAG 1594 and multimeter US 1119 or their equivalents.
Ensure that fuses S16, S53 and S54, and ground wire near control unit are in satisfactory condition, and that ignition switch remains in Off position during all test steps.
Connect ABS control unit multi-pin electrical connector to VAG 1598 using adaptor. The terminal numbering on the VAG 1598 test box is identical to the numbering of the control unit. Specified test values are verified for US 1119 only, and are not necessarily applicable to other testing equipment.
