Subject: SERVICE ACTION CAMPAIGN QX KNOCK SENSOR REPLACEMENT

Dear Volkswagen Owner:

We are writing to inform you that we would like to correct a potential performance problem involving the engine of your Jetta GLI or Golf GTI-16V vehicle.

Problem Description

Volkswagen has found that the electrical cable connected to the engine's two knock sensors may have been reversed during manufacture in 1990 and some 1991 model

Volkswagen Jetta GLI and Golf GTI-16V vehicles. In vehicles where this occurred, the engine could operate based upon incorrect electronic signals causing it to knock under extreme load which under certain circumstances could result in engine damage.

Remedy

Your authorized Volkswagen dealer will replace one of the sensors and properly connect both sensors.

Your Action

Please contact the Service Manager of your Volkswagen dealer for an appointment so that the necessary repair can be performed without delay. The corrective work will take approximately one half hour and will be free of charge.

As part of our commitment to maintain your satisfaction with our product, we want to make sure that your Volkswagen performs to your expectations and hope that you will make arrangements with your Volkswagen dealer as soon as possible.
