Campaign - Fuel Pump Deviates From Production Specs: Overview

REPLACE FUEL PUMP 1990 MODEL JETTA GLI (16V)


Dear Volkswagen Dealer:

This is to inform you of the initiation of a service action campaign involving 1990 model

Volkswagen Jetta GLI (16V) vehicles. The affected vehicles are within the following vehicle identification number range:

WVW___1G_LW000001 - WVW___1G_LW476499


Defect Description Volkswagen has found that the affected vehicles were inadvertently manufactured with

a fuel pump which deviates from production specifications.


Remedial Action Each affected vehicle must be retrofitted with the correct fuel pump, part number

191 201 037S.

Customer Notification

Owners of affected vehicles will be notified on or about September 5, 1990. Copy of the owner notification letter is enclosed for your information.


Vehicle Allocation

Prior to owner notification we will furnish you with a computer printed list of vehicles containing names and addresses of owners residing within your primary area of influence.

Inventory Vehicles

It is important that inventory vehicles be corrected prior to sale.

Parts Requirement An initial supply of replacement fuel pumps will automatically be allocated to you based upon your vehicle allocation. Additional fuel pumps must be ordered by you from your respective parts warehouse. The parts required for the fuel pump replacement are as follows:

Time Allowance

The time necessary to replace the fuel pump is 65 T.U.

Additional Campaigns

Some of the affected vehicles are also involved in the QX knock sensor replacement campaign. Owners of these vehicles will receive a single authorization form listing both campaign codes. Please check your V-Crest system or contact your Zone/Distributor office concerning vehicles in your inventory to ensure that both actions are completed simultaneously prior to sale.


Campaign Authorization

VWUS will mail notification letters, including authorization forms, to all known owners.

If a customer does not present an authorization form, please confirm that the service action is applicable and shows an open status before you commence work by accessing the V-Crest system or by contacting your Zone/Distributor office. If service action work is required, please prepare a blank campaign form W 43 002 3010 and mail the back copy to VWUS.

Dealer Obligation

It is important that you schedule service action appointments with your customers on a priority basis. Please provide a copy of this communication to every person in your dealership who has responsibility for recalls.
