Insufficient Cooling Output






1 - Heater core
2 - Air blend (temperature) flap
3 - "Max" A/C button
4 - Fresh air/recirculation flap
5 - Fresh air intake
6 - Fresh air/recirculation vacuum servo
7 - Fresh air blower
8 - Evaporator
9 - Instrument panel vents
10 - Mode (central) flap
11 - Footwell vents
12 - Footwell/defrost flap
13 - Defroster vents


Observe the following:
- do not park car in sunlight
- condenser and radiator clean and free of obstructions
- compressor drive belt in good condition and properly tensioned
- air ducts for condenser and radiator properly installed
- fresh air blower 7 operates on all four speeds

- open instrument panel vents 9
- insert thermometer in left instrument panel vent
- switch A/C ON by pressing Max A/C button 3
- adjust fresh air blower to high speed (position "4")
- adjust air flow distribution knob to VENT position (instrument panel vents)
- adjust temperature control knob to full cold
- air blend (temperature) flap 2 must audibly contact stop
- air flow to heater core 1 must be blocked

If NO
- adjust air blend (temperature) flap cable, Service and Repair

- start engine and set speed to 2000 RPM
- mode (central) flap 10 must be closed to defroster/footwell vents
- no air must flow from footwell vents 11 or defroster vents 13

If NO
- check and adjust flap control cables, Service and Repair
- check pinions on control knobs, replace control head if necessary

- fresh air/recirculation servo 6 must retract (vacuum applied)
- fresh air/recirculation flap 4 must close to outside air
- fresh air intake (arrow 5) must be blocked

If NO
- check vacuum hose layout and connections, Vacuum and Vapor Hose Diagrams
- check fresh air/recirculation flap two-way valve, N63 according to wiring diagram

If air distribution OK,
- check A/C system temperatures and pressures (outlet air temperature at left vent) refer to A/C System Performance Check Testing and Inspection
