Cold Start Valve, Checking
Function, checking
- perform output checks
spray pattern, injection time, and leakage, testing
- disconnect harness connector from ignition coil power output stage
- disconnect intake air boot from throttle body
CAUTION: The sensor plate must not be raised during starting because catalytic converter damage could result.
- disconnect coolant temperature sensor (G 62) harness connector
- preset VAG 1630 digital potentiometer to 15000 Ohms and connect to disconnected harness connector using jumper leads from VW 1594 adaptor kit
- remove cold start valve (N 17) and place in a measuring glass
WARNING: Fire Hazard! Do not smoke or have anything in area that can ignite fuel.
- operate starter
- cold start valve must spray (pulse) for approx. 8 seconds in a uniform pattern
- dry off tip of cold start valve at nozzle
- within one minute; no drops may fall from the valve tip nor may any fuel dampness be present on tip surface
