Fuel Pumps, Checking

Requirements
- Battery voltage must be OK
- Fuse 18 must be Ok
- Briefly operate starter
- fuel pump must run audibly for approx. 1 second







If NO
- Disconnect harness connector 1 from the Motronic Engine Control Module (ECM) and connect remote control VAG 1348/3A between terminal 12 and ground using jumper wires from the VW 1594 adaptor kit
- Switch on the ignition
- Operate the remote control

If the fuel pumps run:
- the fuel pump relays not being triggered by the Motronic ECM, perform a complete electrical check, if necessary replace the ECM.

If the fuel pumps do not run or only one pump runs:
- check the supply voltage at fuel pump
- connections using LED tester VAG 1527B
(fuel pump at red/yellow connector and brown wire)
- Operate the remote control
- the LED tester must light up

If NO
- Locate and eliminate open circuit using wiring diagram

If LED tester lights up
- replace either the fuel pump or the auxiliary fuel pump
