Subject: Speed Sensor G 54 Circuit

Passat as of 1990 m.y.
Model(s): Cabriolet, Jetta GLI, Corrado as of 1991 m.y.

Production Change:

As of the 1991 m.y. product update, the speed sensor (G 54) circuit is supplied to the radio connector T8/1 via a blue/white wire.

The purpose of this circuit is to provide speed information to the automatic volume control circuitry of radios used in some markets.

To avoid problems in the engine management system, shifting problems in the electronically controlled automatic transmission and functional problems of the cruise control system, no wires should be spliced into this circuit.

When it is determined that a problem exists in the speed sensor circuit, do the following;

1. Inspect vehicle to determine if the radio is a VW supplied radio. If not, make sure that the G 54 circuit is disconnected from the radio.

2. Determine if a wire is tapped into the speed sensor circuit; if so, remove it.
