SUBJECT: LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTY FOR VOLKSWAGEN REPLACEMENT MUFFLERS (Supersedes Volkwagen Warranty Circular 88-20-V, dated December 30, 1988)
Since January 1, 1989, Volkswagen of America, Inc., (VWoA) has provided a Limited Lifetime Warranty for Volkswagen Replacement Mufflers purchased by a retail customer.
This policy has now been expanded to include Vanagon (except air-cooled applications).
As of April 1, 1990, all new Genuine Volkswagen Replacement Mufflers (excluding air-cooled applications) are warranted by VWOA for as long as the original purchaser of the Replacement Muffler owns the vehicle on which the muffler was originally installed. The Replacement Muffler must have been purchased by a retail customer and installed by an authorized Volkswagen dealer. This warranty is limited to the following:
If the Replacement Muffler does not last for as long as the original purchaser owns the vehicle, a new Replacement Muffler will be provided at no cost. The labor required to remove the Replacement Muffler and install a new Replacement Muffler is not reimbursable except as noted below.
The LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTY FOR VOLKSWAGEN REPLACEMENT MUFFLERS supplements the LIMITED WARRANTY FOR NEW AND FACTORY REMANUFACTURED PARTS AND ACCESSORIES of 6 months or 6,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Labor may be reimbursable under the LIMITED WARRANTY FOR NEW AND REMANUFACTURED ACCESSORIES.
The new Replacement Muffler will continue to be covered by the Limited Lifetime Warranty for Volkswagen Replacement Mufflers.
1) Prior to replacement, the customer must present you with proof of original purchase of the Replacement Muffler from an authorized Volkswagen dealer (i.e., repair order showing VIN and customer's name or the original warranty certificate for the Limited Lifetime Warranty for Volkswagen Replacement Mufflers).
2) The documentation proving replacement, along with a completed claim form and proof of original purchase must be presented to the District Parts Manager. Upon verification by the District Parts manager, a credit or a Replacement Muffler will be issued to the dealer by the parts depot.
