1. Disconnect battery ground cable and cover negative terminal during work on airbag unit.
2. Disconnect RED voltage supply connector marked ``airbag'', located behind instrument panel, then wait 20 minutes for airbag system capacitor to discharge prior to performing any service on system.
3. Remove lower instrument panel trim covers, then the power window switches and ash tray.
4. Remove knee bar, then the airbag unit, refer to AIRBAG UNIT.
5. Remove steering wheel, refer to Steering and Suspension/Steering/Steering Wheel/Service and Repair then disconnect spiral spring connector, Fig. 4.
6. Remove shear nuts from control unit using tool 9259 or equivalent, then the airduct and vacuum lines from A/C valve.
7. Remove radio and fresh air controls, then the instrument cluster trim and switches.
8. Remove instrument panel, refer to Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators/Instrument Panel/Service and Repair.
9. Disconnect left and right deceleration sensors, then remove airbag control unit with wiring.
10. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Use new shear nuts to mount control unit. During tightening, shear nut rounds off when correct torque has been reached.
