Impact Sensor: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery ground cable and cover negative terminal during work on airbag unit.2. Disconnect RED voltage supply connector marked ``airbag'', located behind instrument panel, then wait 20 minutes for airbag system capacitor to discharge prior to performing any service on system.
3. Remove knee bar, then the fuse/relay panel from mount and pull down to access left deceleration sensor connector.
4. Disconnect deceleration sensor connectors, left and/or right located under instrument panel, near A-pillar.
5. Remove shear nuts from sensor mounting studs using tool 9259 or equivalent, sensors are located in right and left plenum chambers and accessed through engine compartment.
6. Remove sensor and slide wiring through grommet.
7. Place sensor lead through grommet in body and mount sensor on studs, arrow on sensor points forward.
8. Install new shear nuts and tighten, hex head of shear nut rounds off when correct tightening torque is reached.
9. Reconnect deceleration sensor connector, then reinstall fuse/relay panel.
10. Reinstall knee bar panel, then reconnect voltage supply connector and battery ground cable.
