Check/Replace Fuel Pump Unit

Dear Volkswagen Owner:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Volkswagen has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in some 1990 and 1991 model Volkswagen Corrado vehicles. Our records show that your car is one of the vehicles involved in this action.

Defect Description

The Volkswagen Corrado vehicle is equipped with a fuel pump unit which is located inside the fuel tank. Volkswagen has found that the fuel filter housing on some 1990 and 1991 model Corrado vehicles could deform causing the fuel pump to come loose. A loose, and thus improperly seated fuel pump could cause reduced fuel flow to the engine possibly causing driveability problems and, in extreme instances, stalling of the vehicle.

Remedy

Your Volkswagen dealer will check your vehicle for the type of fuel pump unit in your car and replace it, if necessary.

Your Action

Please contact the Service Department of your or any authorized Volkswagen dealer for an appointment as soon as possible. The necessary repair work will take little more than an hour and will, of course, be free of charge. Replacement fuel pump units will be available at Volkswagen dealers after May 9, 1991.

Precaution

Prior to having your vehicle corrected, please be alert to the performance of your engine. Should you notice that the engine misfires or cuts out, do not continue to drive the vehicle. Please pull off the road and contact your nearest Volkswagen dealer.
