Check/Replace Corrado Fuel Pump Unit


A. Checking
- Open trunk.
- Remove trunk floor covering.
- Remove sending unit cover.
- Check top of sending unit for brown paint dot.

^ If brown paint dot is present, pump is ok; no further work needed.

^ If there is no brown paint dot, proceed to Step B.


B. Remove and Replace Fuel Pump
- Clamp black fuel line to prevent fuel leakage.
- Remove both fuel lines and electrical connector from top of unit.
- Loosen sending unit lock nut with special tool 3217.
- Remove fuel from tank using fuel storage cart TFM 300 000 00 TPC (available through VWoA) or similar.





^ Note alignment of pump before removing to assure proper re-positioning when installing.

- Remove unit from tank by turning pump counterclockwise until it releases from bottom lock ring
(approximately 45 degrees).

- Destroy removed unit and discard in accordance with local ordinances.

- Install new unit, part number 191 919 051 BM, into fuel tank by carefully placing pump onto lock ring in tank (new pump installs same as removed pump). Turn unit clockwise approximately 45 degrees; feel it lock into place.

^ Make sure O-Ring is in place in tank opening. * Set top of unit into tank opening and secure with lock nut. Tighten lock nut with special tool 3217.

* Make sure arrows on tank and unit align (see Illustration below).

- Reconnect fuel lines using new clamps, part number N 100 834.01.

- Reconnect electrical connector and release clamp on fuel line.

- Refill vehicle's fuel tank.

- Turn ignition key on for approx. 30 seconds, to allow pump to fill.

- Start vehicle and check for leaks.

- Reinstall sending unit cover and carpet in trunk.
