Drive Belt: Adjustments

A/C Compressor Split Pulley:

- Adjust the air conditioning compressor V-belt by adding or subtracting adjusting shims between the two portions of the crankshaft's split pulley, as shown in the image above. The front half of the split pulley must be removed before the air conditioning V-belt can be removed. After installing the belt and the front pulley half, torque the four mounting nuts to 20 Nm (15 ft lb).

NOTE: When removing the air conditioning V-belt, note the position and number of adjusting shims so that they can be reinstalled in the same order. Adjusting shims are available in various thicknesses from an authorized Volkswagen dealer.
