Main Pump

To replace the Main Fuel Pump:

WARNING: Fuel will be expelled during this procedure. Place a large container under work area to catch spilling fuel, use a clean rag to soak up any spilled fuel around container. Do not disconnect any wires that could cause electrical sparks. Do not smoke or work near heaters or other fire hazards. Keep a fire extinguisher handy.

Fuel Delivery Components:





1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.

CAUTION: Absolute cleanliness is essential when working with fuel circuit components of Digifant II. Even a minute particle of dirt can cause major trouble if it reaches the fuel distributor or fuel injectors. Before disconnecting any of the fuel line connections, throughly clean the unions. Always use clean tools.

Fuel Pump Electrical Testing:





2. Working beneath the car, disconnect the two electrical connectors from the fuel pump.
3. Temporarily pinch shut the supply line that comes from the fuel reservoir. Ready container to catch spilling fuel.
4. Loosen the hose clamp and remove the input fuel line. Remove the cap nut, the fuel line, and its two sealing washers.

Fuel Pump And Filter Mount:





5. Working through the access hole in the lower bracket (see image) loosen the the fuel pump clamping bracket bolt and slide the pump out of the bracket.
6. Installation is the reverse of removal.
7. Torque the clamping bolt to:

44 in.lbs. (5 Nm)

8. Install new sealing washers on either side of the banjo fitting and torque the cap nut to:

9.5 ft.lbs. (13 Nm)

9. Reinstall the negative (-) battery terminal.
10. START the car and check for leaks, repair any leaks immediately.
