Suspension: Description and Operation

These vehicles use a MacPherson strut type front suspension. The upper part of strut is attached to the upper fender reinforcement. On Fox models, the wheel bearing housing is integral with the strut assembly and is attached to the lower control arm through a ball joint, Fig. 1. On all models except Fox, the strut and wheel bearing housing are separate and distinct parts, with the strut attached to the housing with through bolts. The assembly is attached to the lower control arm through a ball joint. During steering maneuvers, the strut and housing rotate as an assembly.
On all models, the axle shafts are attached inboard to the transmission output drive flanges and outboard to the driven wheel hub.
