Subject: Revised FTC Internal Engine Repair Claim Processing Instructions for Vehicles Which Are No Longer Covered by the Manufacturers' Warranties

Effective July 16, 1990, all internal engine repair claims handled under the Federal Trade Commission consent agreement with Volkswagen of America, Inc. for vehicles no longer covered by the manufacturers' warranties, are to be entered into the Warranty Information Network (WIN) system. The claims are to be submitted as Customer Assistance claims (claim type = W5) with the damage category field coded as an "FT" (FTC). To facilitate claim processing, WIN has been programmed to automatically insert the damage category "FT" in all FTC claims processed with claim type W5.
All internal engine repair claims must first be reviewed with the responsible DSM and approved for claim entry before actually submitting claims of this type through the WIN system.
FTC internal engine repair claims are currently defined as any Customer Assistance claim (W5) with any of the following part identifiers:

^ 1310, 1319, 1326, 1330, 1340, 1348, 1350, 1359, 1360, 1363, 1367, 1370, 1371, 1374
^ 1505, 1507, 1510, 1513, 1514, 1520, 1523, 1524, 1535, 1540, 1542, 1544, 1549, 1550, 1554, 1558, 1559, 1560, 1562, 1563, 1565, 1570, 1571, 1572, 1573, 1575, 1576
^ 1720, 1740, 1751
^ Please use part identifier CARB to identify all cylinder head and/or fuel system carbon removal claims processed with claim type W5.
All WIN FTC internal engine repair claims will be reviewed and released by Volkswagen of America, Inc. Customer Relations personnel only, located in Troy, Michigan. As the claims are released, they will proceed through the WIN system the same way all other Customer Assistance claims are processed today.
