Condition

Ticking noise caused by injector pulsations transmitting into the passenger compartment.

Service

For customer complaints of ticking noise in the passenger compartment, perform the following procedure.

- Locate fuel return hose in engine compartment along fuel rail.
- Measure 130 mm (5-1/8 in.) from the pressure regulator and mark fuel return hose.

Warning
Hose contains fuel NO smoking, NO open flame, and NO incandescent bulbs in the work area.

Use suitable container to catch fuel spillage.

- Cut 25 mm (1 in.) from the fuel return hose at the location marked.

Caution
When installing spring hose clamps, use VAG 1819 or equivalent to avoid injury and ease installation of clamps.

- Install dampener Part Number: 030 133 045 with two clamps Part Number: N 102 922.01

Note
Dampener must be ins tailed parallel to the road surface to be effective.
