Installation
1. Lightly lubricate the input shaft splines with lithium grease or equivalent, then position the transmission on the engine, being careful not to damage any of the clutch components.NOTE: Check that the large cover plate is correctly positioned. If necessary, use a wrench on the crankshaft pulley to align the splines of the mainshaft to the splines of the clutch disc.
2. Install the lower transmission to engine mounting bolts and then install the upper bolts.
3. Install and align the small cover plate and its mounting bolts. Torque the large M12 bolts to 55 Nm (41 ft lb). Torque the small cover plate bolts to 10 Nm (87 in lb).
Transaxle Mounting Brackets:
4. Install front mounting bracket on the transmission. Torque the mounting bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft lb).
5. Install the rear transmission rubber mount and its related bolts, and align the support. Tighten the bolts only until snug.
6. Install the front engine stop bracket bolts, tightening them only until snug.
7. Reconnect the drive axles to the transmission drive flanges. Torque the 8mm 12-point socket-head bolts to 40 Nm (30 ft lb).
8. Install the starter. Torque the M8 bolts to 20 Nm (15 ft lb).
9. Connect the reverse light switch and, if applicable, the upshift indicator connectors.
10. Install the front exhaust pipe.
11. Reconnect the shift mechanism. Use a new bolt in the shift coupling and torque it to 20 Nm (15 ft lb).
12. Loosely install the clutch cable to the release lever.
13. Connect the speedometer cable to the transmission housing.
14. Remove the jack.
15. Reconnect the battery negative (-) terminal.
16. Align the engine and transmission mounts.
17. With the engine aligned, torque the mounting bolts to specifications.
18. Torque the front engine stop mounting bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft lb).
19. With the mounts aligned, and the fasteners properly torqued, adjust clutch pedal freeplay. It may also be necessary to adjust the shifting mechanism.
20. Refill the transmission with the appropriate lubricant before starting or towing the vehicle.
