Removal
1. Disconnect the battery ground strap.2. Remove upper engine/transmission bolts.
Clutch Cable:
3. Remove the clutch cable from the clutch lever (arrow).
4. Remove the speedometer cable from the transmission. Cover the hole to prevent loss or contamination of the fluid.
5. Remove exhaust pipe from manifold.
Front Engine Stop Mounting Bolts:
6. Remove engine stop bolts (arrow).
7. Remove front exhaust pipe from catalytic converter.
8. Remove exhaust pipe support from transmission.
9. Disconnect axle shafts from transmission.
10. Disconnect wiring for the back up light switch.
11. If applicable, disconnect wiring for the upshift indicator switch.
Clutch Cover Plate:
12. Remove cover plate bolts (arrows).
13. Remove the starter.
Shift Rod Bolt:
14. Remove bolt from shift rod coupling (white arrow).
15. Pry off linkage coupling (black arrow).
16. Pull shift rod coupling off shift rod.
Transmission Support Tool:
17. Position transmission support under transmission and raise slightly.
Transaxle Mounting:
18. Loosen bolt "1".
19. Remove bolt "2".
20. Pivot support "3" towards rear of car.
21. Remove rubber mounting bolts "4".
22. Remove rubber mounting "5" from brackets.
Transaxle Mounting Brackets:
23. Remove front mounting support (arrows).
24. Remove lower engine/transmission bolts.
25. Pry transmission off of engine.
26. Lower transmission carefully.
CAUTION: At no time should the weight of the transaxle be supported by the transmission mainshaft. Such a load will damage the clutch and transaxle components.
