Throttle Valve Potentiometer:
NOTE: If the the throttle switch is misadjusted, the engine may surge at idle or cutout during a steady driving speed or light throttle applications.
The throttle valve basic adjustment must be OK. Refer to FUEL SYSTEMS.
The switching point of the idle switch is the only adjustment possible. The full throttle switch becomes adjusted as a result of adjusting the idle switch and is not adjustable.
1. Disconnect the throttle switch harness connector.
2. Connect test adaptor VW 1501, or equivalent to the throttle valve switch plug.
3. Remove the throttle switch heat shield.
4. Connect a suitable volt/ohm meter between terminal 1 and 2 of the test harness.
Throttle Valve Potentiometer Adjustment:
5. Loosen the throttle switch.
6. Clamp a 0.007 in. feeler gauge between the throttle lever and the throttle stop screw.
7. Rotate the switch counterclockwise slowly until 0 ohms is displayed.
8. Tighten the switch in this position.
